Plywood

Until recently, I've felt indifferent toward plywood. It was the stuff of cheap furniture and graffiti-inviting worksite panels, of knots and warps and school hall speakers. It just was.

Now that I've started to learn about and work with plywood, I am slightly embarrassed about my previous indifference (more like ignorance), but thrilled at the opportunities plywood holds.

Do you know how plywood is made? I had no idea until I watched the video below. It's basically taking a giant pencil sharpener to a tree trunk, and gluing the dried shavings together in a criss-cross pattern before pressing them neatly into rectangular sheets.

If you're interested, have a watch of this video showing the manufacturing process of plywood boards, then and now (and note the jaunty work wear):

I find I’m constantly thinking about plywood and what I might be able to do with it. It feels promising.
