Impatients

That’s what my mother calls them, so that’s what they are.

(Thanks to her accent, she also calls ‘sheets’ ‘eshits’, which most definitely is not what they are, but that’s a story for another day.)

For sure, I felt inspired by Marimekko’s unikko (1964). It’s not often I’m not, I’m so besotted. But I kept going back to one of my childhood gardens, that when in bloom, I felt taken by the contrast of the impatiens with the richness of the foliage. I couldn’t help but channel those feelings here.

I find blue and black hard to work with. I thought I’d go with a few different blues to go with the black, and the white to bring it all together.

I like this one.
