Folded neatly into a stamped cake box, I handed over my first fabric commission two days ago. Surprisingly, I feel forlorn.

I think it’s because this fabric has consumed me for the better part of a month, and now my studio looks, well, bereft.

It could also be that designing and creating four metres of bespoke fabric has been an enormous learning curve for me, one which produced a beautiful rhythm in my life, and now it’s gone. Perhaps I tied my newly minted confidence to the finished piece, after being practically paralysed with doubt when I started.

Regardless, it is finished. And I am chuffed with the result. This is only a beginning.
